Carmen-Suite - L'Arlésienne-Suites I & II

The Fontana SCFL 117 release featuring Antal Dorati conducting the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux was produced during the high-fidelity era of the late 1950s and early 1960s. This recording captures Georges Bizet’s beloved suites from his operas and incidental music, works originally composed in the late 19th century that have remained cornerstones of the orchestral repertoire due to their evocative melodies and instrumental color.

Antal Dorati, a conductor renowned for his precise sense of rhythm and his ability to elicit vibrant, transparent textures from an orchestra, brought a sharp, energetic interpretation to these standard pieces. The recording was released under the Fontana label, a budget-conscious subsidiary of Philips, which aimed to make high-quality performances accessible to a wider audience without sacrificing the sonic clarity that characterized the label's engineering standards of the period.
