Carmen-The Very Best Of Eric Carmen

Released in 1980 on the Arista label, this compilation arrived during a pivotal transition in Eric Carmen's career. Following his departure from the Raspberries and his initial string of solo success in the mid-seventies, the collection was curated to distill his soft rock and power ballad output for a new decade. It reflects the polished, radio-friendly production style that defined Arista Records' aesthetic under Clive Davis during that era.

The album serves as a retrospective of Carmen's songwriting evolution, showcasing his penchant for lush, orchestrated arrangements and melodies influenced by classical motifs. While it features his most recognizable solo hits, the release was part of a broader industry trend toward consolidating artist catalogs to maintain visibility during the shifting musical landscape of the early eighties. It remains a representative document of the pop sensibilities that dominated late seventies FM radio.
