Where it came from
Carnaval, released in 1986 under the catalog number CA 94750, represents an independent musical project by Régis Tareau. As a self-published release, it occupies the niche space of 1980s DIY music, reflecting the era's movement toward artist-controlled production where musicians often handled their own distribution and packaging outside the traditional major label system.
The album serves as a document of Tareau's creative vision during a period of experimentation in electronic and ambient arrangements. Without the backing of a commercial label, the record stands as a personal artistic statement, characterized by its lo-fi aesthetic and idiosyncratic composition style which prioritizes mood and texture over conventional pop structures.
