Where it came from
Released in the early 1980s by the Lake Charles-based Goldband Records, this single reflects the regional swamp pop and Cajun music scene of Louisiana. Goldband, founded by Eddie Shuler, was instrumental in documenting the eclectic, blues-inflected sounds of the Gulf Coast, providing a platform for local artists like Mel 'Love Bug' Pellerin to reach both local dance halls and niche record collectors.
The record serves as a quirky artifact of the era’s pop culture crossover, where local musicians would often engage with national fads to boost regional interest. Mel Pellerin’s composition highlights the rhythmic, accordion-driven style typical of the label's output during the period, framed by the influence of regional Louisiana production aesthetics that favored raw, live-energy recordings over the polished studio sounds trending in major music hubs.
