"Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" K.525 / "Serenata Notturna" K.239 / Divertimento In D, K.136

Released in 1979 by Philips, this recording features the renowned Italian chamber orchestra I Musici performing some of Mozart’s most celebrated works for strings. At the time of this pressing, I Musici was widely regarded for their refined, disciplined approach to 18th-century compositions, and this collection sought to capture their signature warmth and technical precision. The recording served as a quintessential example of the label's commitment to high-fidelity classical music production during the late 1970s.

The selection includes the perennial favorite 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik', alongside the 'Serenata Notturna' and the Divertimento in D Major, K. 136. These pieces were chosen to showcase Mozart’s mastery of light, conversational chamber music. The production team aimed for a balance of clarity and resonant acoustics, ensuring the interplay between the violins and the ensemble was rendered with the crispness characteristic of Philips' classical catalog, a hallmark that helped define the listening experience for collectors of the era.
