Falstaff - Symphonic Study / The Sanguine Fan - Ballet / Fantasia And Fugue In C Minor

This release was produced by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in 1981 as part of their acclaimed audiophile series. The label specialized in half-speed mastering from original analog tapes, aiming to provide a high-fidelity listening experience that surpassed the quality of standard commercial pressings available at the time. By selecting these specific works by Sir Edward Elgar, the label brought renewed attention to major orchestral compositions that were foundational to the British symphonic repertoire.

The recordings feature Sir Adrian Boult conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra, a partnership historically significant for its deep connection to Elgar’s music. Boult was a personal acquaintance of Elgar and was widely regarded as a definitive interpreter of his scores. These performances showcase a meticulous approach to orchestral color and structure, particularly in the complex narrative textures of 'Falstaff' and the dramatic shifts of 'The Sanguine Fan,' reflecting the conductor's commitment to the composer's original intentions.
