Released by the French label Studio S.M. in the early 1970s, Folk Psaumes 2 emerged from the liturgical renewal movement that swept through French-speaking Catholic circles following the Second Vatican Council. This era sought to modernize religious expression by integrating contemporary folk-pop sensibilities into traditional worship, moving away from formal organ music toward guitar-based, accessible arrangements meant for youth groups and community gatherings.

The album reflects the collaborative spirit of its primary creators: singer-songwriter Raymond Fau, priest and poet Jean Debruynne, and musician Gaëtan De Courrèges. Together, they established a distinct sonic identity for French folk-liturgy, characterized by warm vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar fingerpicking, and lyrics focused on social justice and communal faith. Upon release, the record became a staple in parish youth ministries and summer camps, prized for its ability to transform ancient psalms into singable, modern hymns.
