Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo / Take Me Home

Released in 1968, this single features The Alan Price Set, a group formed by keyboardist Alan Price following his departure from The Animals. The A-side, 'Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo,' is a pop-oriented arrangement of the classic song originally popularized by the film 'Lili' in 1953. This recording reflects the transition period of Price's career, as he moved away from the raw blues-rock of his previous band toward a more polished, brass-heavy pop sound characterized by his distinctive Hammond organ work and vocal arrangements.

The B-side, 'Take Me Home,' highlights the group's songwriting output during their tenure with Decca Records. The production values and stylistic choices of this release were emblematic of the late 1960s British music scene, which increasingly embraced orchestral pop and sophisticated studio arrangements. While the record did not achieve major commercial success compared to Price's earlier hits, it remains a notable artifact of his efforts to establish a unique identity as a singer-songwriter and bandleader independent of his former band's legacy.
