Where it came from
Holger Danske was released in 2019 by The Old Firm Casuals, an American street punk band co-founded by Lars Frederiksen of Rancid. The album serves as a definitive statement for the band, blending their established Oi! and punk influences with a more polished, anthemic production quality. The title pays homage to the legendary figure of Danish folklore, reflecting Frederiksen's own heritage and the band's penchant for themes of history, resilience, and working-class identity.
The release was handled by Pirates Press Records, a label deeply embedded in the DIY punk and independent vinyl community. The design aesthetic for the record follows the band's signature gritty, high-contrast visual style, emphasizing a raw and impactful presentation. Upon its release, the album was well-received by the international punk scene, solidifying the band's reputation for delivering energetic, guitar-driven tracks that resonate with traditional street punk audiences.
