Where it came from
Released in 2021 by the experimental label Sifter Grim, 'I' serves as the inaugural catalog entry, SG001, for the artist Laminate. The record emerged during a period of heightened interest in lo-fi electronic and ambient soundscapes, reflecting the label's commitment to releasing music that challenges conventional genre boundaries and embraces raw, minimalist production aesthetics.
The design of the physical release favors a stark, abstract presentation that mirrors the sonic content of the album. By opting for a minimalist visual language, the creators aimed to emphasize the listening experience over commercial polish, a choice that resonated with a niche audience of collectors who prioritize underground, conceptual packaging within the independent electronic music scene.
