Where it came from
Released in 1947, this 78-rpm disc features the Shep Fields Orchestra during a period when the big band leader had transitioned from his earlier 'Rippling Rhythm' style toward a more commercially directed swing sound. The track 'I Guess I'll Get the Papers (And Go Home)' was a standard of the era, reflecting the post-war domestic shift as listeners moved away from the more frantic wartime themes toward songs about suburban life and routine.
Vogue Records, the label behind this release, is best known among collectors for its innovative 'Picture Discs,' which featured colorful illustrations printed directly onto the vinyl surface. While the design of this specific record followed the label's distinct aesthetic identity, it arrived during a financially precarious time for the company, which struggled to maintain its ambitious production model against the growing dominance of major labels and eventually ceased operations shortly thereafter.
