I Pescatori De Perle: Mi Par D'udir Amcora (Pearl Fishers: I Hear As In A Dream) / Plaisir D'Amour (The Joys Of Love)

V-Discs were a specialized recording program commissioned by the United States War Department during the Second World War. Produced from 1943 to 1949, these records were pressed on vinyl to provide overseas military personnel with high-quality entertainment. V-Disc 476, released in 1945, features tenor Richard Crooks and soprano Marcelle Denya, pairing operatic selections with classical art song to offer soldiers a respite from the realities of the war.

The disc serves as a historical document of the era's performance standards, showcasing the refined vocal technique of Richard Crooks, a major Metropolitan Opera star of the period. His rendition of the famous aria from Bizet's The Pearl Fishers was highly regarded for its lyrical phrasing. These recordings were never sold to the public, as they were intended exclusively for the Armed Forces Radio Service, which contributes to their historical status as artifacts of military morale and cultural preservation.
