If You Want Me To Stay = Si Quieres Que Me Quede

Released in 1973 as a single from the album Fresh, If You Want Me To Stay represents a pivotal moment in Sly & The Family Stone's transition from the high-energy psychedelic soul of their late 1960s peak toward a tighter, more minimalist funk aesthetic. The song was written and produced by Sly Stone, showcasing his evolving interest in rhythmic repetition and deep, pocket-driven basslines that would go on to significantly influence the development of P-Funk and modern hip-hop production.

This specific catalog entry, SC-71207, was produced by Epic Records as a promotional or international-facing release, often featuring the Spanish translation of the title. The design reflects the era's standard-issue Epic label aesthetic, favoring functional typography and bold branding over the elaborate gatefold artwork seen on the band's full-length studio albums. Upon release, the track was critically lauded for its understated sophistication, eventually becoming one of the most sampled and covered compositions in the history of soul and R&B.
