If You'll Be Mine / A Little Love Can Go A Long, Long Way

Released in 1956, this single arrived during the height of Anthony Perkins's burgeoning career, capitalizing on his matinee idol status before his iconic role in Psycho. During this era, major film studios and labels frequently encouraged their young contract players to record music as a way to expand their brand and capitalize on their youth appeal, leading Perkins to record a series of pop vocal tracks for Epic Records.

The production style reflects the polished, orchestrally-backed pop vocal aesthetic typical of mid-fifties labels trying to capture the teenage market. While Perkins was a competent vocalist who would go on to release several full-length albums, these early singles were largely viewed as promotional vehicles, designed to showcase a softer, romantic persona that stood in stark contrast to the intense, troubled characters he would eventually become famous for portraying.
