Where it came from
Released in 1969 on the Belgian label Ronnex Records, 'In Barcelona' b/w 'Zie-Zo' serves as a notable example of the continental European pop scene during the late sixties. Ronnex, founded by Jacques Kluger, was a significant hub for local talent, often blending light orchestral arrangements with popular vocal stylings intended for both radio play and the vibrant cabaret circuits of the era.
The artist credited as Josette was part of the label's roster of performers who contributed to the eclectic output of the Benelux music industry at the time. The production reflects the mid-century tendency to pair melodic, easy-listening tracks with upbeat, accessible b-sides, catering to a broad audience looking for contemporary, non-confrontational pop music that mirrored the lighthearted aesthetic common in European television and variety programming of that decade.
