Where it came from
IX X XI XII was released in 2004 by the multidisciplinary collective Lansing-Dreiden under the Kemado Records label. This project emerged from a period of deliberate anonymity and aesthetic curation for the group, who functioned more as a collaborative art house than a traditional band. The record is noted for its dream-pop and shoegaze sensibilities, reflecting the collective's overarching interest in exploring intersections between esoteric literature, visual art, and sound design.
The album reflects the deliberate, high-concept branding that defined Lansing-Dreiden's early output, focusing on cohesive visual and sonic narratives. The design and presentation were intended to evoke a sense of detachment and classical mystery, consistent with the group's tendency to distance their personal identities from their work. It was received as a cult curiosity within the experimental rock scene, often discussed as much for its enigmatic presentation as for its atmospheric, layered production.
