Jazz Brut 0001

Jazz Brut 0001 represents a contemporary exploration of the jazz-funk and cinematic soundtrack aesthetic, released in 2024 on the Paris-based Q-Sounds Recording label. The project serves as a showcase for the label's signature approach to analog-inspired production, bringing together a collective of musicians including Jean-Baptiste Harysson, Jérôme Makles, Ludovic Bors, Michanol Schaël, and Loïc Betems. The record was conceived to capture a raw, kinetic energy that draws heavily from the crate-digging culture of the 1970s library music era.

The design and sonic direction of the release focus on maintaining a sense of spontaneity, prioritizing live-room recording techniques that define the 'brut'—or raw—nature of the catalog. By stripping back digital processing, the artists aimed to replicate the warmth and imperfections of vintage vinyl pressings. Upon its release, the album was noted by enthusiasts of the boutique soul and jazz underground for its meticulous attention to period-correct instrumentation and its commitment to a gritty, high-fidelity sound profile.
