Where it came from
Jazz Brut 0002 is a contemporary release from the Q-Sounds Recording label, representing the second installment in a series dedicated to exploring the intersection of traditional jazz idioms and experimental, raw soundscapes. Released in 2026, the album serves as a collaborative showcase for Jean-Baptiste Harysson, Jérôme Makles, Ludovic Bors, Michanol Schaël, and Loïc 'Butcher' Betems, who collectively sought to strip back the polished production typical of modern jazz to highlight the visceral, improvisational chemistry between the performers.
The design and composition reflect the 'brut' aesthetic favored by the label, emphasizing a direct, unfiltered capture of the studio sessions. By prioritizing live-room acoustics and spontaneous arrangement, the team aimed to channel the spirit of mid-century avant-garde recordings. While it remains a niche entry in the Q-Sounds catalog, the album has been noted by jazz enthusiasts for its rhythmic intensity and its commitment to a gritty, high-fidelity aesthetic that honors the unpredictability of the genre.
