The Kegelstatt Trio and Clarinet Quintet were both composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during his mature period in Vienna, specifically intended for his friend and clarinet virtuoso Anton Stadler. The Trio, written in 1786, was designed for a domestic setting featuring clarinet, viola, and piano, while the 1789 Quintet remains one of the most celebrated works in the woodwind repertoire for its seamless integration of the clarinet into a string quartet texture.

This 1964 Electrola pressing features the acclaimed British clarinetist Gervase de Peyer alongside members of the Melos Ensemble of London.
