Where it came from
Released in 1974 by the East German state-owned label ETERNA, this recording features Annerose Schmidt performing two of Mozart’s piano concertos alongside the Dresdner Philharmonie under the baton of Kurt Masur. The production was part of a broader effort by the German Democratic Republic to document and distribute high-quality classical repertoire, showcasing the technical precision of Eastern Bloc musicians during the Cold War era.
The album serves as an example of ETERNA’s commitment to consistent, high-fidelity sound engineering, which often focused on a clear, balanced orchestral perspective. Annerose Schmidt, a renowned pianist and educator, was celebrated for her refined interpretations of Mozart, and her collaboration with Masur reflects the rigorous musical standards of the Dresden orchestral tradition, emphasizing structural clarity and stylistic elegance.
