Konzert Für Klavier Und Orchester Nr. 14, Es-Dur KV 449 / Konzert Für Klavier Und Orchester Nr. 22 Es-Dur KV 482

This 1961 release on the Heliodor label captures Paul Badura-Skoda performing Mozart’s Piano Concertos No. 14 and No. 22 alongside the Wiener Konzerthausorchester. Heliodor was established by Deutsche Grammophon as a budget-friendly subsidiary, intended to make high-quality classical recordings accessible to a wider audience by reissuing performances from their extensive back catalog in more modest packaging.

Paul Badura-Skoda was highly regarded for his scholarship and nuanced approach to Mozart, frequently utilizing period-appropriate techniques that prioritized clarity and stylistic fidelity. His collaboration with the Wiener Konzerthausorchester reflects the mid-century Viennese tradition of Mozart interpretation, which sought to balance the structural rigor of the compositions with the lyrical warmth characteristic of the region's performance practice during the post-war era.
