Konzert Für Violine, Klavier Und Streichorchester In D-Moll, Sonate Für Violine Und Klavier In F-Dur

This 1967 recording, released on the Schwann Musica Mundi label, captures Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's early works for violin and piano. The selection includes the Concerto in D minor and the Sonata in F major, pieces composed during the composer’s youth that reveal the influence of his classical training and his burgeoning Romantic sensibilities. These works were rediscovered and brought to wider attention in the mid-20th century, prompting labels like Schwann to document them as part of their effort to explore Mendelssohn's complete chamber and orchestral output.

The performance features violinist Franco Gulli and pianist Enrica Cavallo, a renowned husband-and-wife duo celebrated for their technical precision and lyrical interpretation of the classical canon. Supported by the Orchestra da Camera dell'Angelicum under the baton of Pierluigi Urbini, the ensemble sought to capture the refined, youthful energy inherent in these compositions. Upon its release in 1967, the recording was well-regarded by chamber music enthusiasts for its clean, balanced sound and the sensitive rapport between the soloists, serving as a significant reference for these lesser-known Mendelssohn scores.
