Konzert Für Violine, Klavier Und Streichorchester In D-Moll, Sonate Für Violine Und Klavier In F-Dur

Released under the Schwann Musica Mundi label, this recording features Felix Mendelssohn’s early works: the Concerto for Violin, Piano, and Strings in D minor and the Violin Sonata in F major. Mendelssohn composed both pieces during his adolescence, specifically the concerto in 1823 when he was just fourteen, reflecting the precocious technical mastery and structural clarity characteristic of his early output. These works were long overshadowed by his more mature concertos, but they provide a vital window into the stylistic influences of the Berlin musical scene in the early 19th century.

This recording features the duo of violinist Franco Gulli and pianist Enrica Cavallo, renowned for their interpretive sensitivity and long-standing partnership, accompanied by the Orchestra da Camera dell'Angelicum under the direction of Pierluigi Urbini. Issued as part of the Musica Mundi series, the release aimed to bring scholarly attention to neglected instrumental repertoire. The performance is widely respected for its adherence to the classical poise required by these youthful compositions, balancing Mendelssohn’s burgeoning romantic sensibilities with the formal discipline of his formal training.
