Provenance

Where it came from

Ku'Damm 56 - Das Musical is a stage adaptation based on the popular German television miniseries of the same name, which explores the conservative social climate of 1950s Berlin. Premiering at the historic Theater des Westens in 2021, the production was brought to life through the creative partnership of Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, the duo formerly known for their work with the band Rosenstolz. Their goal was to translate the narrative of self-discovery and the clash between tradition and modernity into a contemporary musical language, blending emotional ballads with period-inspired pop.

This live recording, released by BMG in 2022, serves as an official document of the theatrical production. The design and musical arrangement reflect a conscious effort to balance the nostalgia of the 1956 setting with the high-energy sensibilities of modern German musical theater. The work was met with critical acclaim for its successful transition from the screen to the stage, solidifying its place in Berlin's current theater landscape and attracting a dedicated following among fans of the original television series.
