Where it came from
La Música De Los Kechwas Lamistas represents a meticulous effort by Buh Records to document and preserve the traditional sonic identity of the Kichwa Lamista people in the San Martín region of Peru. Released in 2022 as part of an ongoing archival project, the record captures the communal musical expressions of the community members from Wayku, serving as both a historical preservation tool and a celebration of indigenous cultural heritage amidst the pressures of modernization.
The production process focused on authentic field recordings that prioritize the raw, unadorned aesthetics of traditional Andean and Amazonian instrumentation. By bringing these sounds to a wider global audience, the label aimed to validate the artistic significance of the Kechwa Lamistas' oral traditions. The release was received by ethnomusicologists and world music enthusiasts as a critical contribution to the documentation of Peruvian indigenous music, noted for its integrity in representing community-based performances.
