Where it came from
Lamia was released in 2014 by the Australian death metal band Beyond Mortal Dreams through the label Unholy Prophecies. Emerging from the underground extreme metal scene in Tasmania, the band crafted this EP as a follow-up to their earlier work, aiming to solidify a sound characterized by dense, atmospheric production and technical death metal precision. It represents a specific era of the band's development, bridging the gap between their foundational releases and their later full-length efforts.
The aesthetic direction of the EP aligns with the dark, occult-themed visual language common in death metal discography during the mid-2010s. By releasing the project through Unholy Prophecies, the band sought to cultivate a presence within international metal circles that appreciated raw, uncompromising compositions. Upon its release, the EP was noted by niche music publications and fans of the genre for its aggressive soundscapes and thematic consistency.
