Where it came from
Laminator was released in 2020 on the South London Analogue Material label, a prominent outlet for the gritty, hardware-focused techno scene emerging from the UK capital. Produced by Ayarcana, an artist known for his aggressive and textured sonic palette, the record serves as a visceral exploration of industrial techno, characterized by distorted synthesis and unrelenting, high-tempo rhythms. It reflects the label’s commitment to raw, unpolished sound design that favors physical impact over atmospheric subtlety.
The design and production philosophy behind this release prioritize a direct, confrontational aesthetic typical of the SLAM imprint. By eschewing melodic conventions in favor of abrasive percussive layers and murky, metallic textures, Ayarcana intended to push the boundaries of what is dancefloor-functional while maintaining a distinctively harsh edge. Upon its release, the record was well-received within the underground electronic community for its uncompromising technical rigor and its ability to capture the claustrophobic intensity of modern industrial dance music.
