Where it came from
Released in 1972 on the state-owned Supraphon label, this seven-inch single captures the mainstream pop aesthetic of the Czechoslovak music scene during the normalization era. Jaromír Mayer was a prominent vocalist of the time, known for his polished delivery and contributions to the Czech popular music charts, often collaborating with established orchestras that defined the sonic landscape of the period.
The record serves as a representative example of the localized pop music production facilitated by Supraphon, which controlled the majority of domestic music releases. The songwriting and arrangements reflect the melodic, radio-friendly sensibilities favored by the label’s creative directors to ensure broad accessibility. While the tracks are standard examples of the genre, they remain preserved as artifacts of the cultural output that filled the airwaves of 1970s Czechoslovakia.
