To Tenkrát V Čtyřicátom Pátom • Carmen (Tonight Carmen)

Released in 1990 by the state-owned label Supraphon, this single captures a pivotal moment in the history of the Czech bluegrass band Greenhorns. Formed in the mid-1960s, the group became instrumental in introducing American country and folk influences into the Czechoslovak musical landscape, often acting as a cultural bridge during a period of restrictive political climate. This specific release marks the transition of the band into the post-communist era, where they continued to maintain their reputation for high-level musicianship and thematic storytelling.

The A-side features 'To tenkrát v čtyřicátom pátom,' a song that resonates with the collective memory of the end of World War II, paired with the adaptation of Marty Robbins' classic 'Tonight Carmen.' The design and production reflect the functional, straightforward aesthetic typical of Supraphon’s late-era output. While the band’s work was received with enduring popularity across multiple generations of Czech listeners, this release serves as an artifact of the band's longevity and their role in localizing international country hits for a domestic audience.
