The Musical Masterpiece Society was a subscription-based record label established in the early 1950s by the Concert Hall Society. This release, catalog number MMS-2104, emerged from an era dedicated to making high-fidelity classical repertoire accessible to a broader, middle-class audience through a direct-to-consumer mail order model. By leveraging European orchestras and conductors who were often under contract for anonymous studio recordings, the label provided affordable access to Mozart’s sacred works during the early boom of the long-playing vinyl format.

This specific compilation gathers some of Mozart's most poignant sacred compositions, ranging from the virtuosic early motet Exsultate, Jubilate to the mature, solemn gravity of the Coronation Mass and the Masonik Funeral Music. While the anonymous performance credits common to the early Musical Masterpiece Society releases obscure the specific conductor and ensemble, the production reflects the label's focus on standardized, high-quality audio presentations that defined the listener's introduction to these canonical works throughout the mid-20th century.
