O Dia Que Me Queiras = El Dia Que Me Quieras

Released in 1974 by the Brazilian label Odeon, this recording features the singer Agnaldo Timóteo performing the iconic tango classic El Día que Me Quieras. The song was originally composed by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera in 1934, becoming a foundational piece of Latin American music. By the mid-1970s, Timóteo, known for his powerful, emotive tenor voice and his ability to interpret boleros and sentimental ballads, sought to bridge the gap between his Brazilian roots and the broader Spanish-speaking songbook.

The production on this release reflects the lush, string-heavy arrangements typical of the era's adult contemporary aesthetic in Brazil. Timóteo’s rendition is marked by his signature dramatic flair, which made him one of the most commercially successful and polarizing artists of his generation. The record is part of a catalog of interpretations by Timóteo that aimed to preserve the emotional intensity of classic tangos while integrating them into the polished production standards of 1970s Brazilian pop, a style that found a dedicated audience among listeners who favored traditional romantic vocal performance.
