Where it came from
Released in the late 1960s on the Teo label, this 45-rpm single by Billy Reece and The Lunatics represents the grassroots soul and R&B scene that flourished in regional American recording hubs during the era. Produced on a small independent imprint, the record reflects the soul-blues aesthetic prevalent in local clubs, capturing an raw, unpolished energy typical of regional soul acts striving for radio play on local stations.
The record is a notable artifact of deep soul collecting, valued more for its scarcity and regional historical context than its initial commercial success. Like many releases on the Teo label, the design and arrangement follow the conventions of period rhythm and blues, aiming to capture the emotive vocal delivery and tight, functional instrumentation common in professional but under-the-radar soul productions of the late 1960s.
