Orchestrální Hudba Z Oper = Orchestral Music From Operas

Released in 1975 by the Czechoslovak state label Supraphon, this recording features the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra performing orchestral selections from the operas of Bohuslav Martinů. As a primary promoter of Czech national composers, Supraphon sought to curate high-fidelity recordings of Martinů’s mid-20th-century works, aiming to preserve the nuance of his complex, rhythmic scores for both domestic and international audiences.

The production reflects the aesthetic standards of the era’s Eastern Bloc classical output, characterized by diligent studio engineering and distinctive, austere cover design. By the mid-1970s, the label had established a rigorous tradition of featuring native conductors and ensembles, ensuring these interpretations remained rooted in the composer’s own stylistic heritage. The record was received as a solid technical contribution to the discography of a composer who had been steadily gaining recognition in Western concert halls following his death in 1959.
