Where it came from
Released in 1981 on the Epic label, this recording features Montserrat Vega performing the Spanish-language version of the iconic song from the musical Evita. It emerged during a period of significant international interest in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's work, as various local-language productions were mounted to capitalize on the success of the original London and Broadway stagings.
The recording serves as a cultural artifact of the Hispanic theater market at the time, aiming to bring the emotive narrative of Eva Perón to Spanish-speaking audiences through a localized interpretation. As a single release, it highlights the promotional efforts by record labels to provide accessible versions of major musical theater hits, focusing on vocal performance to capture the dramatic weight of the original composition.
