Released in 1974 on the Calliope label, this recording features organist André Isoir performing the works of French Baroque composers Pierre Du Mage and Jean-François Dandrieu. The collection centers on Du Mage’s 'Premier Livre d’Orgue,' a seminal work of the 18th-century French organ school, which highlights the specific registrations and tonal colors of the era’s instruments. By pairing these pieces with the works of Dandrieu, the album serves as a scholarly exploration of the stylistic nuances found in French organ compositions from the early classical period.

André Isoir, a renowned interpreter of the French repertoire, was praised for his technical precision and deep understanding of historical performance practices. His collaboration with the Calliope label was instrumental in documenting these works with high-fidelity sound, capturing the resonance of the instruments with clarity. Upon its release, the recording was well-received by critics and organ enthusiasts, cementing its status as a definitive reference for those studying the expressive capabilities of the French classical organ.
