Quema Caucho Sobre Mi = Burn Rubber On Me / Baby Baba Boogie

Released in 1980 by Mercury Records, this 12-inch single represents a specific effort by The Gap Band to tap into the burgeoning international disco and funk markets. The inclusion of a Spanish title alongside the original English track highlights the industry trend of the era to repackage successful American R&B hits for Latin American and European club scenes, ensuring the band's infectious synthesizer-heavy sound could resonate across diverse dance floors.

The musical direction of this release was helmed by the Wilson brothers—Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert—who were instrumental in defining the post-disco funk landscape. The production emphasizes the thick, driving basslines and layered keyboards that would become the group's trademark. While the release was functional and utilitarian, designed primarily for radio play and discotheques, it stands as a testament to the band’s ambition to establish their influence as global purveyors of the funk sound.
