Where it came from
Released in 1963 on the Ariola label, Rosen Haben Dornen was a significant mid-career recording for the Israeli-born singer and actress Carmela Corren. At the time, Corren was successfully building a reputation in the German-speaking music market, having transitioned from her early career in Israel to becoming a staple of the Schlager scene in Europe. This track reflects the lush, orchestrally-backed ballad style that dominated West German radio during the early sixties, emphasizing the emotive vocal delivery that made her a popular television performer.
The song fits within the broader tradition of European sentimental pop, designed to highlight themes of romantic longing and resilience. As an Ariola release, it bears the hallmarks of the label's polished production standards from that era. While Corren is often remembered for her participation in the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest for Austria, this record serves as an example of her consistent output during a period when she was heavily engaged in studio recording and touring throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
