Rosen Haben Dornen

Released in 1963 on the Artone label, Rosen Haben Dornen captures the distinctive sound of Dutch trumpeter Willy Schobben. During the 1960s, Schobben established himself as a prominent figure in European light music and instrumental pop, characterized by his melodic, accessible arrangements that frequently bridged the gap between traditional orchestra and contemporary pop sensibilities. This recording reflects the era's fascination with lush, brass-led easy listening.

The record was produced within a period where Artone played a significant role in the distribution and creation of diverse musical styles across the Netherlands. Schobben’s work from this time is often noted for its technical precision and warm, lyrical tone, which helped solidify his reputation as a versatile performer capable of navigating both jazz-inflected pop and sentimental balladry. The design and sound profiles were intended for a mass audience, favoring clear production values that showcased Schobben’s signature trumpet vibrato.
