Sagan Om Nils Holgersson

Sagan om Nils Holgersson was originally published as a two-volume novel by Selma Lagerlöf between 1906 and 1907. Commissioned by the National Teachers' Association, the work was intended as a geography reader for Swedish schools, blending educational objectives with the rich folklore and natural beauty of the Swedish landscape. Its transformation into audio format decades later served to preserve Lagerlöf’s narrative legacy for new generations, grounding the listening experience in the classic literary tradition of Swedish storytelling.

The 1974 release on the Sonora label features a spoken-word adaptation of this beloved fable. Produced during a period when the Swedish recording industry frequently revisited national classics, this pressing aims to capture the pastoral and whimsical atmosphere of Nils's journey across Sweden on the back of a goose. The design and production reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of 1970s Scandinavian media, prioritizing clear, evocative vocal delivery to maintain the enchanting quality of the original text.
