Where it came from
Released in 1981 by the Portuguese label Sassetti, this compilation record was commissioned by Sagres, one of Portugal's most prominent beer brands, to commemorate its 40th anniversary. The album, titled 'Venha Cantar Connosco: 15 Canções De Convivio E Amizade', serves as a cultural artifact of the era, designed to associate the brand with themes of celebration, social gatherings, and national pride through a curated selection of traditional and folk-inflected songs.
The album reflects the marketing landscape of the time, where corporate entities frequently leveraged music as a tool for lifestyle branding and consumer loyalty. While the production is functional and serves as a souvenir of the anniversary festivities, it represents a specific intersection of Portuguese commercial history and the popular music industry, intended to provide the soundtrack for the social contexts in which the beer was consumed.
