Schwanensee-Suite ∙ Dornröschen-Suite, Polonaise Aus »Eugen Onegin«

This 1974 pressing of Tchaikovsky’s ballet suites, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Warsaw, was released by Deutsche Grammophon as part of their extensive catalog of classical standard works. During this era, the label focused on producing high-fidelity recordings that highlighted the rich, romantic orchestrations of the 19th-century Russian repertoire, aimed at both dedicated audiophiles and the growing mid-century market for European classical music on vinyl.

The recording features Witold Rowicki conducting the Warsaw National Philharmonic, an ensemble known for its precision and deep familiarity with Slavic musical traditions. Deutsche Grammophon’s design during the 1970s emphasized its signature yellow-border cover aesthetic, which prioritized a clean, minimalist professional presentation intended to signify prestige and archival quality. Upon release, these suites were well-regarded for their technical balance and their role in making staple orchestral repertoire accessible to a global audience.
