Schwanensee-Suite - Dornröschen-Suite - Polonaise Aus »Eugen Onegin«

Released in 1962, this Deutsche Grammophon pressing features the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Witold Rowicki. It captures a selection of Tchaikovsky's most beloved ballet and opera excerpts, specifically suites from Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty, alongside the Polonaise from Eugene Onegin. At the time, Deutsche Grammophon was aggressively expanding its international classical catalog, often utilizing high-fidelity recording techniques to capture the nuanced performances of Eastern European orchestras during the Cold War era.

The sleeve design reflects the label's mid-century aesthetic, prioritizing clean typography and evocative cover art that signaled the prestige of the Deutsche Grammophon brand. The recording was well-regarded for its technical clarity and the lush, atmospheric interpretation of the Slavic repertoire by the Warsaw ensemble. It remains a classic example of the standard-repertoire LPs that anchored major labels in the early 1960s, serving both as an introduction for new listeners and a reliable reference for established enthusiasts of Romantic-era orchestral music.
