Provenance

Where it came from

This 1973 release from the East German label ETERNA features two of Ludwig van Beethoven's serenades for string trio: the Serenade in D major, Op. 8, and the Serenade in D major, Op. 25. These works, composed during Beethoven's early period in Vienna, reflect the lighthearted and melodic tradition of the classical serenade, a genre intended for social entertainment rather than the profound introspection of his later symphonies.

The recording features members of the Dresden String Trio and guest soloists, typical of ETERNA's commitment to showcasing the high caliber of East German chamber musicians. The cover design and production reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of VEB Deutsche Schallplatten, prioritizing a clean, scholarly presentation of the music that emphasizes the technical precision and tonal clarity of the performers involved.
