Provenance

Where it came from

This 12-inch single was released in 2000 as part of the promotional rollout for the compilation album 'The Hip Hop Box'. Produced by Artemis Records, the record highlights the cultural significance of golden-era hip-hop, featuring legendary figures KRS-One and Schoolly D. It serves as a bridge between the foundational sounds of the 1980s and the commercial landscape of the turn of the millennium.

The design and curation of this release focused on celebrating the raw, authoritative lyricism that defined these two pioneers. By pairing these tracks, Artemis Records aimed to solidify the legacies of KRS-One, often called the 'Teacha,' and Schoolly D, a progenitor of gangsta rap. The release was received as an essential archival effort for hip-hop enthusiasts, prioritizing historical recognition over contemporary chart trends.
