Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1973 on the Gaiety Records label, this 7-inch single serves as a quintessential example of the Canadian country music scene during the early 1970s. Gaiety Records, based in Winnipeg, was a vital outlet for regional artists seeking to reach a wider audience, and this recording reflects the label's commitment to traditional country storytelling through the work of Ben Kerr.

The record features 'Shoes Keep On Walking' on the A-side and 'A Bottle of Booze and a Beautiful Blond' on the B-side, tracks that lean into the classic tropes of heartache and honky-tonk life. Designed with the straightforward aesthetic common to mid-range independent label pressings of the era, the release captures a moment in Ben Kerr’s career when he was actively contributing to the Canadian folk and country circuit, though it remains a niche piece of discographical history today.
