Sonate Pour Clarinette Et Piano / Sonate Pour Hautbois Et Piano / Aubade, Poème Chorégraphique Pour Piano Et Dix Huit Instruments

Released in 1963 on the Le Chant Du Monde label, this recording brings together three significant works by French composer Francis Poulenc: the Clarinet Sonata, the Oboe Sonata, and the choreographic poem Aubade. These compositions represent different stages of Poulenc’s mid-century output, showcasing his characteristic blend of wit, lyrical melancholy, and neoclassical structure. The recording features Jacques Février, a pianist famously associated with Poulenc’s work and the dedicatee of his Concerto for Two Pianos, providing an authentic interpretation of the composer's intentions.

The production sought to capture the intimacy and technical precision required for these chamber and ensemble pieces, utilizing the Concerts Lamoureux orchestra under the direction of Serge Baudo. At the time of its release, Le Chant Du Monde was instrumental in promoting French classical music to an international audience. The design and liner notes of this pressing reflect the period's commitment to documenting contemporary French repertoire, and the album remains respected among collectors for its authoritative performances and the long-standing collaboration between the featured soloists and Poulenc's musical legacy.
