Sonate Pour Arpeggione & Piano En La Mineur / Trio À Cordes En Si Bémol Majeur

Released by Harmonia Mundi France in 1980, this recording captures the chamber music of Franz Schubert, specifically the Arpeggione Sonata and the String Trio in B-flat major. The album brought together four prominent French musicians—Régis Pasquier, Bruno Pasquier, Roland Pidoux, and Jean-Claude Pennetier—who were integral figures in the French classical music scene during the late 20th century. Harmonia Mundi, known for its commitment to high-fidelity, intimate chamber recordings, produced this disc as part of their effort to document the standard repertoire through the lens of sophisticated, historically-informed European interpretations.

The design of the cover aligns with the label's characteristic aesthetic of the era, which often prioritized understated elegance and classical artwork to reflect the nature of the music. The collaboration between the Pasquier brothers, Pidoux, and Pennetier was widely regarded as a significant partnership in French chamber music, celebrated for its technical precision and emotional depth. Critics at the time noted the ensemble's ability to balance Schubert's lyrical intimacy with structural rigor, helping to cement the reputation of this specific performance as a benchmark recording for these particular compositions.
