String Quartets · Quatuors A Cordes "Quinten" & "The Lark"

Released under the FONA label in the mid-20th century, this recording features the Hungarian Quartet performing two of Joseph Haydn's most beloved string quartets: the 'Quinten' (Op. 76, No. 2) and 'The Lark' (Op. 64, No. 5). The Hungarian Quartet, founded in 1935, was celebrated during this era for its refined technical precision and deep commitment to the classical repertoire, particularly the works of Haydn and Beethoven.

The FONA label was known for producing high-quality classical pressings in the European market, often catering to serious collectors of chamber music. These specific recordings reflect the quartet's signature mid-century aesthetic, which favored a lean, energetic approach to Haydn’s score that helped bridge the gap between early 20th-century performance styles and the historically informed practices that would later rise to prominence.
