Provenance

Where it came from

Released by EMI in 1982, this recording features the Finnish kantele duo Kasareikka, composed of musicians Martti Pokela and Eeva-Leena Sariola. The album emerged during a period of renewed interest in traditional Finnish folk music, capturing the delicate and resonant acoustic qualities of the kantele, the national instrument of Finland. It serves as a scholarly yet accessible documentation of ancestral musical traditions preserved through contemporary performance.

The album is noted for its clean, intimate production, which emphasizes the interplay between the two players' distinct styles. By showcasing a repertoire of traditional folk melodies, the record was intended to bridge the gap between historical heritage and modern listeners.
