Where it came from
The 1982 single Sushi Song / Laminate Our Love represents the early independent output of the Australian band The Fauves. Emerging from the vibrant and experimental regional scene of the time, this self-released 7-inch record captures the group during their formative years as they navigated the transition from local art-punk sensibilities to the distinctively irreverent, lyrical indie-rock style that would define their later career.
The design and production of this release were handled entirely by the band, reflecting a do-it-yourself ethos common among Australian indie acts seeking to establish their presence outside of major label infrastructure. Given its limited self-release status, the record was primarily distributed through independent record shops and local gig venues, eventually becoming a sought-after rarity for collectors of early 1980s Australian underground music.
